Boogie Mites in Dubai

During August 2016, Boogie Mites led three days training for practitioners at three The Children’s Garden settings, covering the Boogie Mites Minis and School Ready programmes.

The practitioners learned about the scientific research that links music making to early years development, learned the songs and musical activities in each programme and used small group break-out sessions to discuss how the new musical ideas and songs can be implemented in each classroom. There was also a craft session to practitioners could have hands on experience of making a DIY music kit from recycled objects.

To support the successful implementation of the music and movement training, each setting has a resource pack which includes a training DVD so that practitioners can refresh the training and share with new colleagues. Also included is a song CD and at-a-glance teaching notes for each which cover delivery and progression as well as a guide to how each song supports early years learning outcomes.

Implementation is further supported by designating a “music champion” for each setting, responsible for the implementation of the music training. The music champions have access to our online “customerhub” giving them the ability to download and distribute the songs, training videos and teaching notes throughout the setting as required.

The Children’s Garden teach in English, Arabic, French and German. For those practitioners teaching in non-English, Boogie Mites have supplied backing tracks via the “customerhub” so that the teachers can create lyrics in their own language.

Practitioner’s feedback

“It has been very valuable. I find it interesting and easy to apply with the children. They will use their full brain learning with music. They will enjoy themselves and have fun and improve their fine and gross motor skills. It helps them develop their vocabularies and make them more confident to make new friends by working and dancing as a team.”

Marian Salib, KG1 LA, The Childrens Garden

“Very valuable as it helped me think in a wider way about how to connect music with everything else to make an activity that will really be loved by the children.”

Amira Salem, Nursery Class Teacher, The Childrens Garden Jumeira
